Mary Landrieu keeps the proud Louisiana tradition of political corruption alive

William A. Jacobson over at Legal Insurrection brings to our attention Mary Landrieu's comment regarding the $ 100 million (or is it $ 300 million?) payoff to secure her vote on the healthcare bill.

According to Roll Call, Landrieu said the following when confronted with the issue:

"I will correct something. It’s not $100 million, it’s $300 million, and I’m proud of it and will keep fighting for it"

How are you going to "keep fighting for it", Mary, if not with the continued support of the bill?

Brings to mind the former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards' famous justification for accepting bribes: "It was illegal for them to give, but not for me to receive."

In other words, I'll take a bribe, I'm proud of it, and screw you little people.

Politicians using taxpayers' money to bribe other politicians to screw the taxpayers some more. Welcome to American Politics 2009.
